After graduating from college in 1981 with a degree in Electronics Technology, I went to work in a local stereo store as a repair technician. Music was my first love. I played guitar and enjoyed working around music all day. I met many industry reps, attended numerous training seminars, and learned as much as I could about audio electronics. Unfortunately, the earnings potential of an audiophile tech was very limited at that time. After a few years, I transferred my skills to the higher demands of the electronic cash register business, and later to corporate IT. I pushed myself to learn as much as I could, and in July 2004, I started my own IT consulting business, Rhodenizer IT, Inc. I served companies that had outsourced their own IT departments, as well as small businesses that couldn't afford their own IT staff, retiring in 2017.

Managing chronic back pain and recently beating cancer gave me a new outlook on life. Sitting in a recliner in front of the tv was just not for me. I have to be doing something I have a passion for, so I returned to my first love... music! Later, when my church needed someone to run the sound system for our worship band, I went from guitar player to audio engineer. It had been about 35 years so I needed to get caught up on new gear quickly. From analog to digital, from Mackie to Allen & Heath, I went on another learning binge. This time, I had the benefit of online classes and YouTube.

I was able to put what I learned into practice when Covid-19 hit. A new sound system sat in boxes at the church, so I got the OK to setup and install it on my own, which I enjoyed greatly! Since then, I have been through numerous online training classes and obtained certifications from Shure and Audinate. In May of 2020, I completed the exam to obtain a Dante Level 3 certification.

Presently, I serve our church running the sound system and playing guitar. While I am officially "retired" now, I occasionally help others with sound issues and other technical problems in the northern Metro Atlanta area. I am also available for teaching other volunteers and running sound elsewhere. Click to send me an e-mail.
